Charcoal Baked Oolong (炭焙乌龙 – Tan Bei Oolong) – Rich, Smoky Taiwanese Oolong with Deep Complexity
$5.90 – $39.00
Discover our Charcoal-Baked Oolong, meticulously hand-roasted by Master Tea Artisans skilled in the rare art of charcoal-roasting, a craft that takes a decade to master. Harvested in spring and gently withered under the sun, the tea leaves are then roasted over longan-wood charcoal in bamboo baskets atop fruitwood coal for 2 weeks. This process yields a rich, dark infusion with a sweet chocolate aroma. Enjoy a bold yet delicate flavor profile, with toasty nutty notes and hints of dried fruit. Despite its extended roasting, the tea maintains a soft, subtle fruitwood charcoal aroma and an exceptionally smooth mouthfeel.

Absolutely love the specialty oolongs from Craftsman Tea when they do bring them in! They get sold out so quickly, I’m lucky to get my hands on this. I love dark and smokey teas like Lapsang Souchong, so imagine my excitement when I saw this one. It has the most beautiful deep and dark infusion, you can taste the toasty nutty notes right away with a delicate flavor in the backdrop. Very excellent I will be buying this right until it’s sold out!

This tea has a rich and dark infusion that will draw you in. There is also a wonderfully sweet chocolate aroma. I would describe the tea as bold but delicate, nutty and toasty with a special buttery fragrance, nothing is overpowering, I find this tea extremely well balanced. Very smooth on the palate with a fruitwood aftertaste. Definitely enjoyed this very much and highly recommend giving this one a try.
Sher Min –
I understand why this tea has its fans but it is too roasted for me. Thought I’d give it a try but at the end of the day I still prefer the less oxidised oolongs such as butter oolong or tie guan yin. I gave it to my coffee loving husband and needless to say he found this special and something he won’t mind having. However it is still unique in its own way and although I the taste profile didn’t wow me, I can appreciate the quality of the tea.

Hi Sher Min! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Charcoal-Baked Oolong. We appreciate your honesty! It’s understandable that the roasted flavor might not suit everyone’s palate, especially if you prefer lighter oolongs like Butter Oolong or Tie Guanyin. It’s great to know you can appreciate the quality and uniqueness of the tea, even if it didn’t wow you personally. If you ever decide to explore more teas in the future, we’d love to help you find something that fits your taste better. Thank you again for your feedback!

A remarkable tea! When brewed, the infusion is rich and dark, then quickly its sweet chocolate aroma will hit you. It’s one of those aromas that make you want to savor that moment more. I would say it is robust, delicate, nutty and buttery all at the same time. A combination of everything that works

The aroma and flavor and depth of this tea is outstanding, dep and inviting. Bold but balanced, deep but delicate, those are the best words to describe this tea with such a rich character. Sipping this tea is not just a drink but an entire experience, remember to slow down and savor the moment to get the most out of it. Keep the great oolong teas going.

I get so excited when I see specialty oolongs available in Singapore. My review of this one is AMAZING. Every part of this tea experience was memorable, starting with a deep bold flavor, then transforming into some honey-like and lighter, and finally disappearing into a unique caramel flavor. A MUST TRY.
